Thommen Altimeter Instructions For 1040x

The modular designed THOMMEN Electronic Encoding Altimeter, AD32, with its high accuracy, measures the barometric altitude and has an integrated [] See product. Digital Clocks 2' ATI and 3' ATI Multifunction Display (MFD) The STRATOTIMER is not just a clock! It is a flexible multifunction display (MFD) that is customized to your needs.

I recently bought a used Thommen model 1000 Sportsman's Altimeter/Barometer on eBay. At first I thought it was OK, but then - I noticed that the red 'hand' that moves around the dial is not perfectly straight: the long part is straight, but the shorter part which ends with the circle is not in line with the main longer part. - There is no serial number stamped on the face (or anywhere else) of the altimeter. Other do have straight hands and serial numbers on the face. Seems unlikely that Thommen would risk its great reputation by making defective instruments, and unlikely that even a used altimeter would have a bent hand and no number. And unlikely that there was or is still a market for fake Thommens.

But I'm no expert and that's why I'm asking if anyone knows about problems like this. -------------- falling leaves / hide the path / so quietly ~John Bailey, 'Autumn,' a haiku year, 2001, as posted on oldgreypoet.com Off Leash Man Joined: 16 Apr 2012 Posts: Location: Traveling, with the bear, to the other side of the Mountain. I am logged in but can't follow your link? I do have a Thommens and have sold them in years past. I was never aware of any phoneys out there but with the price of the instrument at the time I guess it is possible.

Hard to imagine anyone would waste time with it though because those weren't a 'high volume' product and the potential for a counterfeiter making a profit seems low. Especially now that so many GPS and wrist computers are available with an altimeter feature. The needles are indeed delicate. Is there evidence the case has ever been opened or compromised in any manner? As long as the aneroid capsule is undamaged and you 'calibrate' the unit, it should still work fine.

Oscar peterson youtube Do you notice any binding as the needle rotates (sit as a passenger in a vehicle climbing, and then going down, a good 1000'+ pass to look for this)? Odd that you cannot view the link, it's been viewed or downloaded 7 times, I just checked. It's an attachment photo for an altimeter sold on this site. But it is an attachment in a private message. Anyway, you don't need to see another photo of a Thommen. No evidence of the case being opened, in fact I wouldn't even know how to do it. Some small scratches on the clear plastic screen over the face.

I tested it somewhat like you said, even going over a bridge up and down I could see the needle move slightly. I calibrated it to weather service barometer readings, seems to work. Not sure what you mean by binding.

I'll try taking a photo of my unit and post it here. What about serial nos. Must all Thommens have them? Always on the face? I have the option of trying to return it to the eBay seller.

Should accept it if I have evidence of something defective. But I'd rather not put up with that hassle. Thanks for the second link. I did get a reply this week from Thommen, surprisingly: Quote: Usually, there should be a S/N on the dial face (some units had the S/N engraved on the backside.). Anyway, this product is no longer available since production of this line was ceased more than 4 years ago and we only still provide repair service.

Best regards, Walter Fischbach Manager Instrument Services This does not completely answer my question about serial numbers, because he says 'usually'. Well, if you are interested in checking the accuracy (because that is really what matters) you can try to do it yourself, and you should be able to confirm whether it is accurate, or not, within a pretty good range if you can get up something high in a day from the lowlands.
